flycatchers complete clean sweep of safda league
saturday may 10, 2008, by birdboy
On Wednesday night May 7th the Flycatchers completed a clean sweep of the SAFDA Autumn league, winning - Womens League - Div 2 Open League - Div 1 Open League Congratulations everyone!!!
Div 2 beat UE in a hard fought final - a lift in intensity in the last 20 minutes proving the difference. The team has been very well lead by Karl Hillyard all season.
Div 1 Open are the first team to break the stranglehold that Flinders Uni have had on Div 1 Open. In what was possibly the best game ever seen in South Australia, the teams traded points to 14-14 at time cap. Golden point went for about 15 minutes and had everything, including a terrible collision which saw Flinders star Alec Deslandes taken off the field. The Flycatchers prevailed to take out the prize.
Thanks to all captains this league and all the sideline support. The spirit has been excellent and the club looks forward to a successful Mixed League.

satin flycatchers win women's grand final
thursday april 17, 2008, by birdboy
Last night, the Satin Flycatchers made it 3rd time lucky and won the SAFDA Women's Grand Final, beating Double Ds (NAU / AU) 9-4. Congratulations to all!
Their defensive pressure was fantastic and did not let up all night. While the Double Ds were playing some lovely offense early on, they could not capitalise because of the flycatchers D pressure. The Flycatcher kept plugging away and started to get an small lead. The Double Ds kept coming at the Flycatchers but the small lead gained early on proved a handy buffer, and by the end of the game the Flycatchers were pulling down some long hucks and were more solid than their valiant opponents. It was a very well spirited game with enthusiastic and excited support from the sidelines. Dutch, Finn and Matt jumped up and down like kids on lollies upon victory. The Satin Flycatchers also pulled in the spirit prize for the league. Congratulations to all!
is it going to be third time lucky for the satin flycatchers?

shining flycatchers top of league ladder
wednesday march 26, 2008, by birdboy
With their third win on the trot, the Shining Flycatchers went to the top of the Open Ultimate Ladder (if there was one). The SHFCs tonight beat Ultimate Evolution 13-8 in another fine defensive performance. They are now 5 wins and 2 losses. Well done everyone. Special mention to great tactics by D captain Dutch, an awesome D at 1-1 by Brad to step things up, and some really hard marking by Duncan late in the game. Everyone played well. Lets keep this momentum up!
flycatcher regional mvp!!
monday march 17, 2008, by birdboy
On the weekend, a number of Flycatchers played in the Southern Australian Regional Championships, which is the qualifying tournament for Nationals.
In their first major tournament, Lydia Paton and Chris Davis played for Indies and Karma respectively. Both had good tournaments and i am sure they learned stacks.
But the biggest news was Flycatcher president Bronwyn Stone shone all weekend, and took out female MVP for the tournament!! Congrats Bron it is thoroughly deserved!!!

The Shining Flycatchers posted their third win for the season tonight, with a hard fought yet ultimately convincing win over Flinders Magnum 14-7. Well done to all the boys for working very hard for each other and having very few turnovers. Lets keep it up!
